While barricaded construction sites have become a common sight in Saigon, the city is making headway on several infrastructure improvements.
One such initiative is the new branches of Nguyen Van Cu bridge, which were completed earlier this month and inaugurated on June 29, reports VnExpress. The bridge exits aim to reduce the distance that commuters must traverse coming from Nguyen Van Cu bridge into Vo Van Kiet avenue, thereby relieving congestion at the nearby Tran Hung Dao intersection.
According to Tuoi Tre, a total of VND169 billion (US$7.4 million) was funneled into the endeavor, which consists of two exit ways, N1 and N2. They are, respectively, 300 meters and 141 meters in length, and have a lifespan of 100 years.
The project developer, the Management Center of Saigon River Tunnel, also reported that the construction was completed five months earlier than initially planned.
Elsewhere, construction workers are also adding the finishing touches to sections of the Tan Son Nhat airport overpasses, according to Zing. Construction began in February this year, and some parts will be open to traffic on July 3.
This includes the Y-shaped Truong Son flyover, which leads from Truong Son Street to Tan Son Nhat International Airport's domestic and international terminals. The project has a budget of VND242 billion, and progress is now two months ahead of the original timeline.
Likewise, construction at the Nguyen Thai Son - Nguyen Kiem roundabout in Go Vap District is also seeing concrete developments. The Hoang Minh Giam - Nguyen Thai Son overpass will also be put into use this July, while the rest of the project is expected to be finished by the end of 2017.
