Less than a month after Vietnam's Ministry of Health confirmed the country's first two Zika cases, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has declared the virus outbreak in District 2's Thanh My Loi Ward is over.
According to Saigon Giai Phong, Nguyen Tri Dung, director of the city's Preventive Health Center, told the media that no new cases have been reported in the area after 23 days of heightened inspection.
On March 29, a 33-year-old pregnant woman who lives in Thanh My Loi was hospitalized and later tested positive for Zika virus. Following the news of her condition, the municipal health department sprayed insecticide both at the patient's house and workplace, encouraging other local residents to do the same. Zika examinations were also increased at 30 local hospitals.
